The role of Antonio in Shakespeares Tempest Essay Life is so miserable. Here I sit in a corner of this darkened room all alone thinking about my past and trying to figure out what to do with my futile life . The night is dark and long just like the rest of my life. But it is not too late, as long as I am living I will struggle to get what I deserve. We will write a custom essay on The role of Antonio in Shakespeares Tempest specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Life has become very upsetting lately and I miss the times when I was the highest authority and the sole Duke on Milan. Now things have changed and I sit here in my room helpless, with nothing in my hand, no charge or position in Milan. What a glory I have experienced, guards on my security at all times, wo castles with several maids at my service, I worked with people I liked and got rid of the useless ones. I was the master and everyone else a slave, my orders were fulfilled in no time and I lived a happy life. If only I had planned more carefully and kept track of my men putting my brother to eternal sleep I would have been living a pleasant life of a duke; I would never have been hopeless to Prosperos powers. Ugh I hear Prosperos insulting words in my ears. How could I have possibly heard those insulting words from him at the island when he snatched my dukedom from me? At that time my life was in his hands. Looking at him now sitting at the place where I have ruled for 12 years is an unbearable sight to me. What is my future? A slave for Prospero? No! I will not let this happen. Prospero is taking revenge from me, he treats me like I am nothing . He doesnt miss any chance of teasing me. He did the worst to me today. He took all the authorities from me and kicked me out of the castle. Its nothing but my innocence that always comes into my way, maybe I am not a good planner or maybe I lack faithful friends. I know its nothing but jealousy. Prospero cannot see me guiding him just because he knows that I know better than he does and I know better how the world goes by, he is just jealous of me and my abilities because I am smarter than him. Twelve years back I proved to him that I am born to be a duke. Well, it wasnt my fault; it was his stupidity to prove to me that he didnt have any interest in affairs of Milan. He detached himself from the political affairs as he had become entrenched in studies of the secret arts and had given me control of the affairs of state, and I was free to take charge and make decisions on my own. And I didnt do anything wrong, all I did was take the place where I was supposed to be. I wanted the dukedom that was mine, I was ruling over Milan all alone and Prospero was gaining all the reputation and money and any sensible man like me would not have tolerated it. So I decided to get rid of him which had been my desire since childhood. From the very beginning I had been discriminated. Everyone liked Prospero as a kid for he was more into studies than I was. He was the one whose suggestions were considered by our father as he was the older son and the duke-to-be and this hurt me a lot. I had always loved Mirandas mother, Surrinda and did everything to get to her but Prospero proposed her first and she became his life partner. I have cried on this loss for ages. Thus, thinking of how to take the dukedom from Prospero I met the King of Naples (Alonso) and told him how I was taking care of Milan and all the credit and benefits were going to Prospero. I made a deal with him that if Alonso would help me drive my brother out of office, then I would see that Milan paid him a yearly sum of money. .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 , .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .postImageUrl , .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 , .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:hover , .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:visited , .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:active { border:0!important; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:active , .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17 .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uafe8e283298c8bb70df64b2341ed8a17:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Halloween EssayThis I knew would result in making Milan, which had been a sovereign power, subservient to Naples but it was not more important than ruling Milan all alone and putting Prospero down.. After making this deal I talked to the people and told them what was going on, they were all happy with me and there upon I usurped Prospero and with the help of our armies Prospero and Miranda were carried off. They were left in a boat in the middle of the sea one night, but some of my unfaithful ministers helped him and he survived. I will now take good care of those ministers and Gonzalo, they will have to pay the price for cheating me. Someone is playing a familiar tune on tabor and pipe outside my window . Oh! It reminds me of the charms of the mystic tunes I heard at the island. I remember everything was going so smooth after I became the duke . I thought I had conquered the world and taken my revenge from Prospero for treating me as a low person all my life. I know everything was perfectly all right till fate started playing its role and Claribels marriage took place in Tunis and we decided to go there together. I had no danger from any side. I was content and didnt know that Prospero was still alive. No one knew he has been living on an island and making plans of how to take his dukedom back. He with the help of his spiritual powers caused the storm that scared all of us to death and then brought us to the shore of the island where he lived. I was shocked to see him alive where he insulted my fellows and me and demanded his dukedom back. At that time I was left with no choice; I had to do as he said and I gave him back his charge of Duke of Milan. After that we all came back to Milan with Prospero ruling over us. I had thought people will never accept him but this didnt happen, people took him with open arms and were glad to see them alive . Everyone took part in Mirandas wedding whole-heartedly. Only after one year Alonso left this world. He was miserable. I am sure it was Prosperos revenge to him with the help of his spirits that poor Alonso died of bubonic plaque. And it struck to me that it was my turn next and Prospero will not let me live. I talked to Ferdinand and tried to persuade him to help me fight Prospero but he was blinded by Mirandas love, which is why he refused to take my side. Ferdinand probably told Prospero about my demand of justice and fighting against him as I am the rightful duke of Milan. The result to this wasnt good either. In the next few days I was moved further away from the politics of Milan and was ordered to leave the castle, all I could do was clench my fists. I cant see myself dying hopeless and powerless. I have belief in myself and I can get anything I want and If I dont take any step right now I am afraid Prospero will eventually disinherit me of all that I am left with. My friend Sebastian doesnt trust me anymore and that too is because of Prospero. He played a game with us and gave Sebastian a higher rank within the politics of Milan and he being so close to Prospero doesnt like me anymore. Sebastian is selfish for he forgot the help I offered him when we were on the island. I made him such a good plan of killing Alonso and ruling over Naples. So what if the plan didnt work, we could have thought of something else but Sebastain shouldnt have isolated me like this. Ah! But the point is why would he return to me when he is enjoying the royalty with Prospero. I have two options infront of me, one is to drink this poison bottle in my hand and the other one is to pick up my sword and put Prospero to death with my own hands. Both these options lead me to death. And if death is my destiny then why not die with pride and see the person who has made me go through all this pain DEAD. O Yes! I am sure I can do it.

Management of IT Systems and Projects Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Management of IT Systems and Projects - Essay Example Looking up and practically testing the implemented fruitfulness of the blessings of information and technology themselves, the new generation of students takes pride in choosing the studies for computing and information technology as their main field of study. However, since the said field of study is relatively newer as compared to the seasoned sciences and humanities related courses students are often unsure as to what their main career paths would be after they have graduated from their computing degrees. Among the basic careers of becoming a computer programmer or a computer science engineer another plausible domain that can get cherished by the advent of the computer science graduates is the field of IT project management. DEFINING PROJECT MANAGEMENT Project Management is an integral task that supports the overall structure of an organization. The application of project management techniques such as establishment of communications among stakeholders and project designers, the or ganization of tasks, the linking of processes within an organization, highlighting of the motivating factors at hand, planning tasks, scheduling subsequent deliverables and the management of resources in pursuit of targeting goals are few of the specific tasks that a project manager needs to perform within his organization. MAIN IDEA With respect to IT, the field of project management becomes even more challenging. IT does not remain the cup of tea of a mere project manager but becomes a specifically designed arena which is best suited to graduates who have specialized in the field of computing and information sciences. With reference to the study done by Downey (2010) it is quoted that Downey considers the conventional career path of a computer programmer as that of an analyst which then eventually ends up as the CIO of an organization after being promoted as an IT manager in the middle. The denomination of being an IT project manager, on the other hand, involves the insight of bot h the business related concepts and also information technology intricacies. It is all about implementing the required technologies into the just right business processes. An IT project manager is the key person who controls the overall working of information systems within organizations. Information systems nowadays are the building blocks of each unit of the corporate world. They are inevitable as they link together all business processes with the latest bits of technologically advanced products thus resulting in the efficient performance of each business unit in the real time environment. However, despite all the above mentioned benefits that a project manager is responsible to address the studies done by Downey (2010) show that there is a point of saturation that each IT individual eventually comes to. Since the technologies are getting renovated at a very rapid rate these individuals can survive at their present positions only if they keep themselves up to date with the latest trends in their field. This is owing to the flexibility of the newer trends but is majorly because of the increasing competition posed by the new-coming IT individuals. It is also mentioned that the input of time and money into the seasoned

Top 10 Oil and Gas Companies of India Essay Example for Free

Top 10 Oil and Gas Companies of India Essay In the short story, â€Å"To Hell with Dying† written by Alice Walker, Mr. Sweet is a sick old man whose multiple ailments bring him often to the brink of death; the narrator’s father and the children would call him back from his deathlike state by calling â€Å"To hell with dying, man!† (Walker 1127), and surrounding him with affection. The â€Å"resurrections† in which the children participate hide from them the reality that death is permanent. Finally, when the narrator is away at college, Mr. Sweet gets sick again, and this time no one can call him back. After his death, the family celebrates him, and the narrator accepts the gift of Mr. Sweet’s guitar, which she plays in his memory. The central idea of â€Å"To Hell with Dying,† is death is inevitable, it comes to everyone. The main character, the narrator, is described in the story to look like a baby monkey when she was a child. For example, â€Å"†¦ around my hairline, which was rather low down, nearly to my eyebrows, and made some people say I looked like a baby monkey.† (1129). This shows that the narrator a unique hairline that resembled a monkey and other people noticed it. When Mr. Sweet is nearing death, the narrator is awakened in the middle of the night because she can bring him back with her love and affection. For instance, â€Å"For soon after we had gone to bed one of the neighbors knocked on our door and called my father and said that Mr. Sweet was sinking fast†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (1128), and, â€Å"I was very good at bringing him around, for as soon as I saw he was struggling to open his eyes I knew he was going to be all right, and so could finish my revival sure of success.† (1129). This shows that the narrator has always been helpful. The narrator thinks that if she continues to help Mr. Sweet come back from dying, he’ll always be okay. For example, â€Å"It did not occur to us that we were doing anything special; we had not learned that death was final when it did come.† (1129). This proves that the narrator didn’t und erstand what death really was because Mr. Sweet had always came back to life. She takes action with going to see him before his death by leaving college. For instance â€Å"†¦could I please drop everything and come home.’ Of course I could.† (1130) This shows that the narrator cares so much that she drops her main priority of college to go help with Mr. Sweet. She feels lots of love toward Mr. Sweet and is saddened by his death. For example, â€Å"The man on the high old fashioned bed with the quilt coverlet and the flowing white beard had been my first love† (1131). This shows she realizes that Mr. Sweet was the first person to show her how being loved and given attention felt. The supporting character is Mr. Sweet; he’s a tall, thin, and old. He is always kind to his neighbor family, especially to the children. He is always drunk and sad but when he is with these children, he is happy and energetic and loves to play with them. Mr. Sweet has many near death experiences which he always overcomes with the love and affection of the narrator. Mr. Sweet represents the special bond that can be shared between loved ones. The main conflict in† To Hell with Dying† is that death is inevitable. The narrator struggles with the internal conflict of death. Throughout the story she tries to control death by â€Å"reviving† Mr. Sweet. However, she learns that she cannot control death when he eventually passes. She doesn’t believe in death until a beloved friend dies. Through Mr. Sweet’s death the narrator realizes that death is always there. For example, â€Å"that Mr. Sweet was really gone? He had never been gone before.† (1130) This shows that now the narrator is seeing death first hand and believing in it for the first time in her life. In the end of the story the conflict is resolved by the narrator accepting that death is a part of life and cannot be evaded.

The Terrorist Attacks and the Cherokee Theory of Violence Essay

The Terrorist Attacks and the Cherokee Theory of Violence Like most Americans, I have spent many moments since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 trying to grasp both the acts themselves and the seemingly endless chain of depressing events following in their wake. Although many have rediscovered faith communities or a renewed social activism in their search for understanding, I have immersed myself in the lessons of Cherokee culture and history. This history teaches me to situate September 11th in the context of other tragedies that have occurred on American soil. For example, as many as 10,000 Cherokee people perished as a result of the forced march to Oklahoma known as the Trail of Tears B or, more accurately, the nuna dat suny, which literally translates as "they were crying in that place." Cherokee oral tradition is replete with stories acknowledging the trauma of what historians euphemistically call "removal", and its physical, spiritual and social wounds may never be completely healed. Other stories, and particularly those in the genr e known as origin narratives, illuminate both 9/11 and Removal by enabling the emergence of a distinctly Cherokee critical theory of violence. One story tells of the time when animals, fishes, insects, plants and humans lived with each other in peace and friendship (see Mooney, pp. 250-252). Eventually, however, humans began to crowd and crush their animal partners out of carelessness and contempt. Even worse, they invented weapons of mass destruction such as the blowgun and the spear that allowed them to kill animals indiscriminately. Each animal nation then called a council and decided to invent diseases inflicting pain and death upon their human victimizers. Under the able leader... ...ely with one another and lived in peace as partners, the ease of human transgression permits no romanticized view of this Agolden age.@ Finally B and this is a much more fragmentary conceptualization B the story refuses its hearers the luxury of demonizing, suppressing or repressing violence. Violence is not something that others do to us, but something we inflict upon others. The story consequently demands that we confront and internalize deeply the consequences of violence, and in this alone offers a profoundly important model of response. Works Cited Arendt, Hannah. What Does It Mean to Describe Television as a Domestic Technology? How Does Its Primary Position in the Home Shape Its Forms and Uses?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO DESCRIBE TELEVISION AS A DOMESTIC TECHNOLOGY? HOW DOES ITS PRIMARY POSITION IN THE HOME SHAPE ITS FORMS AND USES? The act of television consumption occurs in technological, social and cultural forms, which concurrently effect the impact television has on everyday life as a domestic technology. The relationship between these elements is the basis for understanding television consumption. Television today is among the most commonly undertaken leisure activities, yet it is typically viewed as a mundane activity as a result of it’s domestic introduction to households. The initiation of television into the domestic home developed over time to become a routine leisure activity. For more than half a century television has been an intimate part of the life of most populations. ‘It can be extraordinarily powerful because it sits right in the middle of all that mundaneness’ (Potter, 1993). Television was first broadcast to the public in London 1929 by th e BBC network. In the US, commercial broadcasting began in 1939 as a domestic medium developed to provide programming for entertainment.Housing was democratized after the Second World War, and television made its domestic appearance as an essential part of that process. Prior to the 1940’s, private housing was not capable of facilitating a television set. Houses lacked proper electricity, gas facilities and hygiene causing incentive to spend as much time out of the home as possible. ‘Domestication became the solution to urbanization, industrialization and population explosion in the nineteenth century’ (Geraghty & Lusted 1998). Creating an incentive for domesticity solved the uncontrolled working class problem. That incentive began with television. For TV to succeed, consumers had to be at home. To be at home, they needed both capital investment in the home to maintain activities there, as well as an ‘ideology of domesticity which would maintain their pleasu res there rather than in the street, pub, cinema, music-hall or even in brothels or communism’ (Geraghty & Lusted 1998). Throughout the 1940s and 1950s ‘mass’ private housing was perfected as the necessary precondition for televisio. This movement promoted the values of domesticity by creating an incentive to spend time at home.Television became a medium for the association of the home with the ideology of domesticity. It has grown to represent private life, suburbia, consumption, ordinariness, heterosexuality, family-building, hygiene and the ‘femininization’ of family governance (Geraghty & Lusted, 1998). Shortly after the domestication of television, women became the focus for a number of campaigns to achieve social compliance, focusing on hygiene and domesticity. Women attracted men towards the home as they promoted comfort, cleanliness, cooking, security and regular sex. This ideology of domesticity was promoted through political and commercial c ampaigns. They were based upon existing aspects of respectable life like religion, femininity, thrift, shame, privacy, self-help and property. The home became a lifestyle in itself and the activities it was expected to sustain. These associations of domesticity have ineradicably become a part of the TV’s textuality. ‘Television viewing is integrated with the routines through which the rituals of everyday domestic life are constructed’ Grossberg(1987).The ways television consumption is performed depends greatly on various types of social, cultural and household influences. Culture, domestic space, social structure, lifestyle and income, among many other factors all effect the consumption of television in any home. These influences concurrently determine the role of television and the way it is consumed. The television is ultimately a pervasive item of furniture, which is central to the contemporary concept of the home. The TV set is a symbolic object of commodity culture as the choice of television purchased reflects upon its owner. Its relationship to commodity culture is further symbolized by its location in the household. Television is not only an integral part of individual’s lives; it has also become integral to their households physically, focally and socially. Most Western homes are arranged to accommodate the television rather than arranging the television to suit the home. Homes are typically organized to use the television as the main feature of the living space. Viewing is influenced greatly by the location of the TV in the home. The availability of space within a household impacts upon viewing practices. This technology will often be used to create personal space in a restricted environment. The TV may be used in small homes to avoid conflict and lessen the tensions of spatial privacy. In small homes the room must be used for many purposes, which requires the need for negotiation between family members. Larger, wealthier hom es may have more TV’s causing an increase in private space. This may lead to less conflict and friction because personal TV preferences are not an issue. While the television can be used as a medium for privacy it is also effective in terms of developing social relationships.Families are considered to be the fundamental units of society. Examinations of family leisure have consistently demonstrated a positive relationship between family recreation and the success of family functioning. In modern society, leisure is the single most important factor in developing healthy relationships between husbands and wives as well as between parents and their children. The inclusion of the television in the home allows families to always have a leisure activity available to participate in together.Such viewing experiences can provide one of the best opportunities for communication among families today. The household has become a major unit of consumptions and major market focus, yet the pu blic is not well informed about the processes of consumption and its relationship with domestic time, space and actions. Though influences within the household can affect the ways in which television is consumed, television also affects the dynamics of household consumption and use of goods, services and meanings. It defines that homes relationship to the outside world. The last forty years have shown major increases in the diversity of consumption of technologies in households. Advertising through television has greatly impacted this. Television as an object of consumption has a complex economy of meanings. It is both a technology as well as a carrier of meaning. The purchase of televisions as a commodity gains meaning by the intention of the consumer. The type of TV purchased, its location in the home, and its use all signify something about the owner. The associations, which develop as a result of purchase, are all influenced by social measures. Consumption is a general process of the construction of meaning. (Douglas & Isherwood. 1978). It is concerned with ‘the internalization of culture in everyday life’. Which is the re contextualization of the alienating possibilities of everyday life. (Miller,1987, 212) Television is often assigned a kind of everyday piority which means that other interactions take place around and throughout the watching of it. Television is a catalyst for forms of domestic organization of time and space. It is often a determining factor in how households organize their setup and everyday timetables. Disagreements may arise about the choices of broadcast content, or sheer quantity of viewing as well as differences of opinion about whether the set should be on in shared living spaces. Television content can often take priority for some over the more monotonous aspects of the household, a spouse for example. Most domestic conflicts today are not concerned with what is on television but rather about completing chores when oppo sed to luxury of viewing.TV today has become so entwined with every day culture in the home that people will often constantly be watching television while concurrently doing other things. The television continues to prevail over other outdated technologies, as it is so deeply immersed in everyday life that it would seem outrageous for the television to be excluded from the home. Historians and theorists of mass culture have commented widely on the electronic foundations of the mass media and their role in the evolution of modern consumer capitalism.Following the decline of a competitive market structure and furthering it, advanced capitalism creates an expanded sphere of consumption where the needs of the individual are defined, shaped and administered in the interest of high consumption levels and increased market control (Baran & Sweezy 1966). A culture of consumerism meeting these requirements has been largely through mass communications, representing an unprecedented joining of economic and cultural forces through which the meanings and structure of consumption are constituted throughout the realm of daily life.Previous research into the television audience does not consider the new environment in which television exists; the environment today is both technological and social. This new environment needs to be taken into account when studying the effects TV has on everyday lives. The consumption habits among households need to be viewed with the social, economic and technological aspects of the domestic sphere as central influences.Televisions audience needs to be understood in terms of a set of practices that are routine and ritual yet also embedded in the various multiple dimensions of domesticity.
